Every community contains a myriad of organizations dedicated to improving our collective well-being. Healthy Monday can help synchronize their activities to encourage people to make a weekly appointment for health.

Healthy Monday Northern Kentucky

Healthy Monday NKY is a momentous effort by local health leaders to focus wellness programming around a single mission and day. Each week residents are given a Healthy Monday tip and encouraged to walk one of many Monday Miles routes in the community. Mayor Bowman, a major proponent of the initiative, hopes that Healthy Monday activities in schools, such as the Monday Mile and Meatless Monday, will help curb obesity and improve overall health .Northern Kentucky University furthers the area’s success with Let’s Talk Monday; a project that combines classroom time and community service to create a weekly dialogue about preventative health.

Be Active Decatur

The city of Decatur, Georgia has its own website full of events and advice to help citizens be more physically active. Contributor Cheryl Burnette shares the Healthy Monday tip each week, encouraging readers to refocus on fitness after the weekend.

Valley West Community Hospital

This hospital in the heart of Illinois has initiated Healthy Monday programs for citizens and staff alike. Their website features weekly recipes and tips and on-site offerings include health screenings, blood-pressure clinics, illness support groups and parenting and smoke cessation classes.

Pearlridge Shopping Center

This mall and community hub in Hawaii encourages healthy behaviors for seniors each week. Healthy Monday events alternate weekly and include free blood pressure and diabetes screenings and stress reduction programs like crafts and tea ceremonies.

Search Your Heart Sunday… Go Healthy Monday

Starting in 2004, The American Heart Association launched “Search Your Heart Sunday… Go Healthy Monday” to increase heart healthy behaviors and stroke prevention in communities of color. Church leaders help their congregations evaluate their habits and reset their intentions each week with wellness-related sermons, church bulletin features and a database of heart-healthy recipes.
