Who We Are
Sid Lerner, Founder
Throughout his legendary career in advertising, Sid has created campaigns that change the way the nation thinks about everything from common household items — “Don’t Squeeze the Charmin!” — to public health and the environment.
Sid launched Meatless Monday in 2003 in association with the Johns Hopkins Center for a Livable Future followed by other successful campaigns addressing smoking cessation, nutrition, physical activity and stress management, all using a weekly cue and Monday “fresh start” mindset to motivate healthy behaviors from week-to-week.
Using the success of The Monday Campaigns as its framework, Sid established programs in public health promotion at leading institutions in order to bring marketing best practices to public health. Currently there are Lerner Centers for Public Health Promotion at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health, and Syracuse University’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. More recently, Lerner programs were established at NYU Langone Health and the Columbia University Irving Medical Center, to bring health promotion and prevention into the practice of medicine.
For his outstanding service to public health, Sid received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Johns Hopkins University and the George Arents award from his alma mater, Syracuse University.
