Caregiver Monday and Caregiving Organizations Put Spotlight on Self-Care During November National Family Caregiver Month

Caregivers are often overlooked and overwhelmed as they deliver the comfort, companionship and even perform medical care tasks for loved ones who have a chronic illness, disability or simply need more assistance. Dealing with the pandemic has been a struggle for everyone, but recent public health surveys and academic studies from top universities indicate that during these difficult times, caregivers end up shouldering more of the care for loved ones, not less, and that often translates into more stress.

That is why it is more important than ever for caregivers to remember to take the time to care for themselves. To address these needs, Caregiver Monday, a program dedicated to supporting the self-care of the nation’s 65 million family caregivers, offers weekly health and wellness practices. During November National Family Caregiver Month, Caregiver Monday is coordinating activities with several national organizations to celebrate caregivers.

Throughout the month, Sherri Snelling, corporate gerontologist and expert advisor to Caregiver Monday will participate in on-demand videos and webinars addressing caregiver wellness topics including: “The Power of Play,” hosted by Ageless Innovation; “Community Care Corps Giving Caregivers a Break” with Caregiver Action Network; “The Art of Social Connections While Social Distancing” hosted by the Motion Picture Television Fund; “Brain Health 101” with WomenAgainstAlzheimer’s, among others.

Snelling will also represent Caregiver Monday on multiple podcasts, such as Mary Furlong & Associates and The Senior Zone, and will author several articles, including for the Caregiver Action Network’s partnership with USA Today on a “Caregivers in Crisis” supplement. Caregiver Monday, offered through the Caregiving Club, will also share a themed article with evidence-based research on specific topics related to caregiver self-care, as well as provide weekly self-care practices and health messaging across its social media channels.
